HIGH-QUALITY SURVIVAL / OUTDOOR COMPASSES

Small, ingenious, highly sophisticated devices… that’s how they look at least from a distance. However, that sophisticated giant is not too bad. After all, a compass works on only 2 different natural principles. The magnetism in the Northern and Southern hemispheres and the gravitational force of our planet. Despite these 2 simple natural phenomena, it is not a simple task to find the ideal compass. Survivaljack has selected 3 particularly high-quality and compact compasses.

These very complex looking devices all have one thing in common… they all point to the Pole. However, what they have absolutely not in common is the quality with which an outdoor compass is made, as well as the quality of materials used such as Aluminum or Titanium and the associated functions.

A HIGH TECH SURVIVAL COMPASS

A compass is a compass you would say…. The answer to this is,…No ! A compass on a boat is clearly not a survival compass.  High-quality outdoor compasses are compasses that are made as compact as possible, and where all functions that one can come up with are built in, with a high quality of the material, as well as a design that the survival compasses take up as little space as possible when folded, and can endure as much impacts as possible.

THE CRITERIA FOR A GOOD OUTDOOR COMPASS

Below are the points that we have taken into account when selecting the right survival compasses;

  • Compactness
  • Impact resistance when closed
  • Fully protected glass in closed condition
  • Scratch resistance
  • Corrosion resistance
  • Accuracy of measurements
  • Weight
  • Functionality
  • User-friendliness
  • Service level of manufacturer
  • Manufacturer’s warranties

THE BENEFITS OF A HIGH-QUALITY SURVIVAL COMPASS

The advantages are many, and to begin with, one can orient oneself in position between the 2 poles… which is basically the basic task of any compass. Voots one should be able to use a compass as a spirit level…. Very handy when making a camp! Beyond this, one can see with a compass at sea which heading or course to take to get to the nearest land. Furthermore, you can see what time it is with a compass through the stars. Furthermore, by means of the position of the stars and the timing, one can fairly accurately see with the compass which date it is.

When setting up the tent, you can know at night which side the sun is rising and therefore also know on which side to make the campfire and where to cook, and therefore also where to place the tables and chairs and the survival stove, or outdoor stove, or hang the hammock because of shade and sun. This is also important if you just want to sleep outside with a mattress and a sleeping bag !   For further explanation about a survival or outdoor compass, please refer to the books section in the menu.
